Overnight Vision Correction Via Orthokeratology
If you wear contacts, you know they require a lot of care. You have to remember to take them out and clean them every night. Even if you wear glasses instead, you still need to keep these clean and take care of them.
With orthokeratology, you have the option of a vision correction treatment your Somerset optometrist can administer quickly and without surgery. Here’s everything you need to know about orthokeratology.
What Is Orthokeratology?
More commonly abbreviated to Ortho-K, orthokeratology is a form of vision correction. You’ll get fitted for gas-permeable contacts. These are different than regular contacts, in that you’re supposed to keep them in as you’re sleeping.
These contacts are often prescribed for those with myopia in childhood, presbyopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and nearsightedness.
How Can an Optometrist in Somerset Correct Your Vision Overnight with These Contacts?
When your optometrist in Somerset prescribes you Ortho-K contacts, it won’t take you long to see results. In fact, for many, it happens after a night or two. These contacts will subtly change the cornea’s shape.
This naturally and gradually erases many of the common vision issues mentioned above, such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. With time, after you’re done wearing the Ortho-K contacts, you should be able to see nearly perfectly (some patients have reported a return to 20/20 vision). That means you can stop wearing any contacts or glasses.
This is all without pricey laser surgery or any other surgical procedure.
That said, these contacts are a not a one-and-done treatment. If you stop using them, the cornea will gradually resume its original misshapenness, which means your vision issues will return. You generally get several days without the need to wear contacts or glasses when using Ortho-K contacts.
